The first “Star Wars” movie ever to be released on a streaming service is likely to come with a free download on Apple TV, according to a new report.
The movie, which has yet to be announced, will be available on the streaming service’s iOS and Android apps starting today, Variety reported Wednesday.
The movie is expected to arrive on the Apple TV in July.
The app will be a “Netflix-style” experience, the outlet said.
Netflix is one of the largest streaming services in the world, with movies and TV shows available on many platforms.
The Apple TV will likely be able to stream the movie through the company’s upcoming streaming service, a new feature expected to be rolled out next year, Variety added.
The new Apple TV version of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” will be an animated film, and will have a “full array of content from the original trilogy,” Variety said.
The news comes after “Starring John Stamos,” a live-action spinoff of “Game of Thrones,” debuted on the service last month.
That movie, directed by Rob Thomas, also is expected on the app in July and will be accompanied by a free “StarTrek” podcast.
